Flexstone® Offset & UV Media — frequently asked questions
Q1Which printing processes work on Flexstone® 2K Offset & UV Media?
The printing index on specification sheet NMEQS-MACO 293 covers the FS / FG 2K grades from 0.15 to 0.30 mm: these grades are compatible with UV-curable, offset/flexo and screen printing, dry toner is marked testing required, and HP Indigo is marked not compatible. The FM-2K grades and all 0.35 mm grades (FS-2K35, FM-2K35, FG-2K35) are listed in the Label & Hang Tag Solutions brochure for offset and UV only, with nominal weight only. For HP Indigo, choose the Flexstone® 2I digital press grades instead; for dry-toner presses, the FG digital press grades (NMEQS-MACO 298). The FS and FG 2K grades from 0.20 mm to 0.30 mm are also supplied as rolls for wide-format UV inkjet printers.
Q2What temperature can Flexstone® 2K media withstand?
Heat ratings are published for the FS / FG 2K grades from 0.15 to 0.30 mm (specification sheet NMEQS-MACO 293). Long-term, measured in days, the limit is 80℃ (176℉) for both series. Short-term, measured in minutes, the limit is 100℃ (212℉) for FS and 120℃ (248℉) for FG. Dryers, UV lamps and finishing equipment should be set within these limits. No heat rating is published for the FM-2K grades or the 0.35 mm grades, which are listed in the Label & Hang Tag Solutions brochure for offset and UV with nominal weight only. The material is not intended for retort or other very high temperature applications.
Q3What is the difference between FS, FM and FG grades of Flexstone® 2K media?
The letters give the density series. FS (density 1.0) is soft and paper-like. Opacity is published per part-number group, not per series: on specification sheet NMEQS-MACO 293 it is ≥95% on FS-2K20 to FS-2K30, ≥90% on FS-2K15 and FG-2K20 to FG-2K30, and ≥85% on FG-2K15. FM (density 1.2) balances flexibility and stiffness. FG (density 1.4) is rigid. Nominal weights (thickness (mm) × density (g/cm³) × 1000) are about 200, 240 and 280 g/m² at 0.20 mm and 350, 420 and 490 g/m² at 0.35 mm; the specification-sheet part numbers state theirs with a tolerance. Optical, mechanical and heat data are published for the FS and FG grades from 0.15 to 0.30 mm (specification sheet NMEQS-MACO 293); FM grades and all 0.35 mm grades are listed in the Label & Hang Tag Solutions brochure for offset and UV with nominal weight only.
Q4What mechanical data and sizes are available for Flexstone® 2K media?
For the FS / FG 2K grades from 0.15 to 0.30 mm, specification sheet NMEQS-MACO 293 lists elongation of 30%–60% and a tensile strength of 15–20, for which the sheet gives no unit; gloss is 4–6 / 9–12 and whiteness is ≥82 (≥84 at 0.30 mm) (wb). These grades are supplied as sheets die-cut to customer requirements, and the 0.20–0.30 mm grades also as wide-format UV inkjet rolls, 50 m long in 1270, 1370 and 1524 mm widths. The FM-2K grades and all 0.35 mm grades are listed in the Label & Hang Tag Solutions brochure for offset and UV with nominal weight only (FM 240–420 g/m², FS-2K35 350 g/m², FG-2K35 490 g/m²); no mechanical or optical data is published for them.
